Part of the function of Deddington Charity Estates is to make a contribution to the education of children in the district that is over and above the normal curriculum provided by schools. For the several years this contribution has taken the form of art classes at the end of the school day at Deddington Primary School.
The teacher, Fiona Gilje, reports that the children in the Art Club are a lively, entertaining group who always have interesting questions to raise. Speaking of the 2024 spring and summer sessions, for example, she says: “We covered a lot of topics and styles from Hilma af Klimt, aboriginal dreamscapes to scale models of homes and we used many different materials from ink, acrylics to cardboard and cutting up magazines, although making the paper mâché was rather too slimy for some!” Here are some examples of their work, including some inspired by aboriginal dreamscapes. |
